As kids most males and females wanted to play professional sports, I know I wanted to play professional baseball. I remember studying the pitching style of Orel Hersheiser and the numerous batting stances until I could hit the ball. I could tell you players and their stats and still probably could, however these dreams never became reality.
I am still able to play professional sports though because of somebody created the fantasy leagues. There are fantasy leagues for every sport available and they keep evolving into something better and new every year. There was a point in my life where I played fantasy baseball, football and basketball. Now I only do baseball and football; basketball was tough to keep up with at times. Most have only one team, I have 8 baseball teams and most of the time at least 4 different football teams.
Websites are created strictly for fantasy leagues, take a look at www.rotoworld.com and many other websites, but I mainly use Yahoo and ESPN for these leagues. There is a very interesting website with a very unusual twist out there; www.protrade.com. This website combines fantasy sports with Wall Street. You are able to buy, sell, short and cover players and teams based on their performance. So for those of you who are not so savvy with keeping up with a team, try that site where you can actually earn money and prizes for FREE!
Some will argue that fantasy leagues have diminished the fan and the sport by keeping up with the stats and not the player. I couldn't disagree with this any less! Watch the game, watch the player and you'll know who you should start the next day or week for your team. Just because someone had a bad week does not mean you need to drop them, I am in a league right now that someone dropped a very prominent player because he was hitting in Spring Training. It's Spring Training, these players are coming back from vacation to play baseball, let them play during the season.
Go out there sport geeks and enjoy the season!
