This morning on my drive into work I was listening to Jason Smith on ESPN's All Night. Now we all know that the World Baseball Classic (WBC) has been a hot topic for the past two weeks and has come under a lot of scrutiny. I don't know what the solution is, personally I love the WBC and I have watched as many games as I have been able to. But Jason Smith said something that totally threw me over the edge and almost made crash my truck- "The USA should pull out." Wait, what? Pull out, what do you mean pull out, is the United States not the most competitive country in the world. Sure maybe we are not getting our best players to play on this team, but do we get the best players to play on our Olympic team? Davey Johnson is the manager and his job is to get the best out of each player no matter if they are CC Sabathia or Jeremie Guthrie.
Competition is what drives this Classic, look at how Japan and all of the Latin American countries have fared in this event. Their fans have traveled, literally, all over the world to see their teams. We couldn't even drive to Canada to see the USA play, because we think they should pull out! Team USA do not pull out, just start playing for the pride of your country and knowing that we really do have the best players on the field.
